Bio
Andrew Lloyd Baughman is a playwright, songwriter, actor, singer, director and teacher. He is the Producing Artistic Director of The Landless Theatre Company in Washington, DC, and an Associate Artist with Maryland Ensemble Theatre in Frederick, MD. He has also served on the Board of DIrectors for the District of Columbia Arts Center in Adams Morgan.
Baughman works as Arts Department Chair for St. John’s Episcopal School in Olney, MD, where he works as K-8 choral music/drama teacher and is the Director-founder of St. John’s OASIS program (“Olney Arts School in A School”) for the Performing Arts. Baughman worked 11 years as drama director for Rockville High School in Montgomery County, MD. Other schools include The John Eaton School, St. Stephens St. Agnes School, The Murch School, John Eaton Elementary, Hardy Middle School, Sheridan School’s CASA Program, Chesterbrook Academy, and Loudoun Academy of Dance.
He is also a Staff Writer at DC Metro Theater Arts, and a contributing playwright for Hope Operas.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Baughman’s family relocated to the DC area when he was 9 years old. At the age of 16, Baughman and a group of high school friends founded The Germantown Youth Players, a nonprofit theatre company for children that toured local libraries and civic centers to perform Baughman’s original family plays. He later opened Germantown Stage, a retail storefront theatre venue with locations in Germantown and Gaithersburg, MD. Baughman studied Musical Theatre at University of the Arts, Philadephia, and earned a B.A. in Humanities at University of Maryland.
In 2003, Baughman co-founded The Landless Theatre Company, a 501(c)3 nonprofit theatre organization dedicated to cultivating new and diverse audiences for live theatre. Landless has presented the regional stage premieres of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog, Evil Dead The Musical, High Fidelity A Musical (Helen Hayes Recommended Production), Gutenberg! The Musical! (Washington Post Editor’s Pick), Debbie Does Dallas The Musical, A Very Merry Unauthorized Children’s Scientology Pageant, Trey Parker’s Cannibal The Musical, President Harding is a Rock Star (Washington Post Editor’s Pick), Diamond Dead (2008 Best Musical Pick of the Capital Fringe; Selected Participant in the 2009 New York International Fringe Festival), and many others. In 2011, Landless premiered its first annual MASHUP FESTIVAL, a series of pop-culture parody mashup plays.
Baughman is the author of Sing Out, Louise! A Parent’s Survival Guide to Raising a Drama Kid (an amazon ebook bestseller), as well as the SCHOOLPLAYS series. He played the title character and served as an arranger of Sweeney Todd [Prog Metal Version] (nominated for three 2015 Helen Hayes awards, including Outstanding Musical), and is currently arranging the score for The Mystery of Edwin Drood [Symphonic Metal Version]. Baughman currently resides in Frederick, MD, with his wife Melissa, daughter AnnMarie and cat Pitabread.
